What is Eid ?

Eid for Muslims


Eid for Muslims is the day of reward, the day of Joy & Happiness.

 

Please note that there are five 5 pillars of Islam which are five basic rules in Islam that all Muslims must follow.

The Five Pillars consist of:

1.      The Shahada (declaration of faith) - Trusting and understanding the words of the Shahadah.

The shahada means there is no other God except Allah (one God) and Prophet Muhammad is the messenger/prophet of Allah.

The shahada can be recited when a person chooses to revert to Islam as the words in the shahada are the key fundamental beliefs in Islam.

2.      Prayer (Salat) - Praying five times a day,

Kneeling towards Mecca. There are specific ritualistic movements and prayers that are said.

3.      Fasting during the month of Ramadan (Sawm) - Islamic Fasting is not eating or drinking beverages , not treating people in a bad way ,  not having sex or any sexual contact with the other …

 Being the best version of you and having self-discipline, from sunrise until sunset.

4.      Charity or alms-giving (zakat) –

Each year a Muslim must give money to charity (Usually 2.5% of their savings). If a person does not have much money, they can give services to others instead.

5.      Hajj – Pilgrimage (journey) to Mecca. Mecca is a city in Asia.

 

Eid comes after performing an Obligation of Islam (a Duty) For Allah Almighty. It is a reward from Allah Almighty to his worshippers for their patience, Fatigue and their sincerity.

There are actually 2 Eid In Islam: Eid El fitr & Eid al Adh’ha

·        Eid el Fitr:

Comes after fasting a whole month; Ramadhan (A month when Muslim do Fasting for 30 days from Sunrise until Sunset); it comes in the 1st of the month Shawal of each year 

·        Eid el Adh’ha:

Comes after Muslims do Hajj – Pilgrimage (journey) to Mecca. Exactly After the pilgrims spend a day on Mount Arafat and it is on the morning of the tenth of the Month Dhu al-Hijah every year, where the Pilgrims Offer sacrifices of all types of cattle, such as sheep, cows, and camels, in order to be closer to Allah Almighty, and distribute its meat to the poor and needy.


Other Facts about Eid:

·         It was named Eid el Fitre (breaking the fasting); because it is the day, Muslims finish fasting a Whole Month.

·         Eid el Fitre is also named ‘The small Eid’

·         From the Sunnahs of Eid al-Fitr,

Sunnah; Means an act that the prophet/messenger Mohammed peace & blessings be upon him used to do

§  Payment of zakat al-Fitr on behalf of every Muslim; regardless of age or gender.

§  Greeting Muslims over one another,

§  Tekbir from the eve of Eid until the day of Eid,

§  Washing on the day of Eid; which is a confirmed Sunnah

§  Performing the Eid prayer together In the mosque, which is also a confirmed Sunnah, and its time is after sunrise on the morning of the Eid; as well as iftar before performing the Eid prayer even by slice of date or a glass of water, and eating an individual number of dates before performing the prayer,

§  In addition, the relatives must be connected, visiting relatives and neighbours, and checking on orphans, the needy, the widows, and giving them greetings.

§  It is forbidden to do fasting in the First day of Eid as well the First 4 days of Eid EL Adh’ha.

§  Eid EL Adh’ha means Eid of the sacrifice, because Muslims sacrifice a Cattle of any type for the sake of Allah.

§  Eid el Adh’ha is Also called The big Eid, The day of sacrifice, Day of Pilgrims.
